CHAS. L. CANAN DIED MONDAY
Passed Away at Home of His Sister After Brief Illness

Charles LeRoy Canan passed away at the home of his lister, Miss Lulu Canan, at 4:20 Monday morning [May 6] following a brief illness. Mr. Canan suffered an attack of the flu early last fall and never fully recovered from the effects of this illness. For the past month he had failed gradually but was bedfast but a week preceding his death.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon at the Barnard Funeral Home with Rev. T. H. Harding, pastor of the Associated church, in charge of the services. Burial was made in Grace Hill cemetery.

Charles LeRoy Canan, the only son of John Lee and Martha Canan, was born at Bellevue, Iowa, June 28, 1884, and passed away May 6, 1934, at the age of 49 years, 10 months and 8 days. His father passed away when Charles was but seven years of age. He grew to manhood and received his education at Bellevue, coming to Hawarden with his mother and sister 28 years ago. He made his home in this city for one year at that time and since then has been employed with construction contractors in North Dakota. The past three winters after the road work ceased, he spent in Hawarden with his sister and uncle. When he returned last fall his health was not as good as it had been due to the effects of his previous sickness and during his last illness he was tenderly cared for by his sister here. Sincere sympathy is extended to her in her hour of sorrow. He leaves to mourn his passing two sisters, Miss Canan of Hawarden and Mrs. P. J. Weber of Bellevue, Iowa; his uncle, H. I. Trump of Hawarden and two nieces, Miss Virginia Weber of Dubuque, and Miss Martha Weber of Bellevue, Iowa.
