Mrs. W. W. Allen, for nearly thirty years a resident of Hawarden, passed away at her home in this city about midnight Sunday night following a prolonged illness during which time she suffered intensely. Her condition had been regarded as critical for some time and the end was not unexpected.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon at the Associated church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Chas. E. Tower and interment was made in Grace Hill cemetery. The large attendance at the funeral service and the wealth of beautiful floral tributes attested the high esteem in which Mrs. Allen was held in the community.

Mrs. Louise Nitch Allen was born at Dubuque, Iowa, Jan. 18, 1860, so at the time of her death had reached the age of 67 years, 7 months and 16 days. When 9 years of age she moved to Maquoketa, Iowa, where she lived until the time of her marriage to W. W. Allen on Jan. 18, 1898. Shortly after their marriage Mr. & Mrs. Allen came to live in Hawarden and their home has been here ever since with the exception of about five years spent at Cumberland and Rice Lake, Wis. One son was born to Mr. & Mrs. Allen, Sam R. Allen of Rick Lake, Wis. who with the husband is left to mourn her death. She also is survived by one sister, Mrs. J. C. Betzenderfer of Hawarden.

Mrs. Allen was an active member of the Eastern Star Lodge and the Ladies' Aid Society of the Associated Churches. She was a faithful and true wife and mother, a thoughtful friend, an excellent neighbor and an unusually cheerful and patient suffer. Those who called upon her during her long and painful illness carried away something of her cheerfulness and courage with which she greeted them, and to all who were anxious she ever gave the fullest assurance of her readiness to depart whenever the Master should call. Her many friends in this community - tried and true friends of long standing - feel keenly the passing of this excellent lady and there hearts overflow with sympathy for the grief stricken husband, son and sister.
