Mrs. Clemencia De Smet passed peacefully away at the home of her son, Peter De Smet, last week Wednesday, aged eighty-five years, three months and one day. Mr. De Smet was in her usual health almost until the time of her demise, her death being due to the natural decline of her advanced age.

Mrs. De Smet was born in Easburg, Holland, September 15, 1857, where she grew to womanhood. She was married there to John De Smet, who preceded her in death almost ten years ago. Mrs. De Smet came with her family to this country fifty-two years ago. They lived in New York one year, then moved to Chicago where they resided one year, then moved to Sheffield, Illinois, where they resided ten years, coming from there to Sioux County, where Mrs. De Smet spent the last forty years of her life.

After the death of her husband, Mrs. De Smet continued to live in Rock Valley until the last two or three years when she spent the fall and winter months with her children. She was a woman will known in Rock Valley and her kindly disposition won her the friendship of all who knew her.

Mrs. De Smet was the mother of six children. One daughter died twenty-five years ago, and another, Mrs. Isadore Wyffels died seventeen years ago. The children living are, Mrs. Sophia Aurit, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Philip, Santa Ana, California; Frank, Minneota, Minn.; and Peter of near Hudson. She also leaves several grandchildren.

Funeral services were held from St. Mary's church in Rock Valley, Friday morning and the remains were laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery. Among the relatives from a distance who were here for the funeral services were Albert Wyffels, Alfonso Wyffels, and Frank De Smet, of Minneota, Minn., and Mrs. Sophia Aurit and children of Sioux Falls.
