Mrs. Mary Gallagher of Alcester passed away a few minutes after 12 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. J. Ruttan in Hawarden, as the result of a heart attack. She had been in ailing health for the past two years or more and when Mrs. Ruttan visited her at Alcester last Thursday she was prevailed upon to accompany her home to spend a week or two. Sunday she suffered a heart attack but rallied to some extent and then another heart attack was suffered Tuesday night from which she did not recover.

Brief funeral services will be held at the Ruttan home in Hawarden at 9 o'clock Saturday morning and at 10 o'clock solemn requiem high mass will be held at St. Teresa's church at Beresford by Mgr. Monahan of Beresford, Rev. Fr. Curley of Emmet and Rev. Fr. Coleman of Des Moines.

Mary Agnes Lenehan was born at Shullsburg, Wis., July 26, 1863, and died Jan. 15, 1936, at the age of 72 years, 5 months and 19 days. She grew to young womanhood at Shullsburg where in April, 1886, she was united in marriage with William Gallagher. The year following their marriage they came west to LeMars but after spending about a year and a half there moved on to South Dakota. Mrs. Gallagher had lived on the same farm near Alcester for about 43 years. After the death of her husband on Jan. 20, 1932, she remained in the old home and continued to keep house for her sons until she came to Hawarden just a week ago.

Mrs. Gallagher was one of the real (the next sentence is blackened out), and knew many of the hardships and struggles of the pioneer period.

She is survived by three sons, Charles, Thomas and James, all of Alcester, and two daughters, Mrs. Wm. J. Ruttan of Hawarden and Mrs. Bessie Myron of Jackson, Minn. She also leaves four grandsons and a wide circle of friends to mourn her loss.
