Mr. Brian De Jong, age 53, of Hull, passed away on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at his residence.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, September 11, at 11:00am, at the First Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Verlyn Boone will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. There will be a prayer service on Saturday, at 10:00am, at the church.

Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Friday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:30pm, at the church. Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.
Brian Keith was born on February 16, 1957, in Sheldon, the son of Arthur Edward and Edith Marie (Bonestroo) De Jong. He was raised in Hull, where he graduated from the Boyden-Hull High School. He also attended the Western Iowa Technical College in Sioux City for two years, learning appliance repair.

On November 5, 1976, he married Pamela Kay Tilstra in Inwood. They made their home in Hull, where he and his brother, Galen, owned and operated De Jong Hardware.

Brian was a member of the First Reformed Church, where he was a long-time usher.

For 33 years, he served on the ambulance squad, and for 28 years, he was a volunteer fireman, both in Hull.

He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, playing Spades, golfing, cheering on the Minnesota Vikings and following his kids’sports activities. It gave him great joy to play with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Pam De Jong; three children and their spouses, Julie and Mark Van Beek, of West Des Moines; David and Nicole De Jong, of Pella; and Dan and Katie De Jong, of Sioux Falls; two grandchildren, Roan De Jong and Mya Van Beek; two brothers and their wives, Larry and Marliss De Jong, of Pittsburg, Missouri; and Galen and Nancy De Jong, of Hull; three nephews and one niece and their spouses, Bruce and Shyla De Jong, Matt and Linda De Jong, Keith and Bridgette De Jong, and Marty and Jeremy Millikan; and his parents-in-law, Rodney and Nell Tilstra, of Sioux Center, Iowa.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Randy and Terry Tilstra.
