Rock Valley, IA: Hilda Jensen, 63, died due to cancer, on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Fellowship Village of Inwood, IA. Funeral Service will be 10:30 am Monday at Faith Reformed Church, Rock Valley. Burial at Valley View Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday with the family present 2-4 pm at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley.

Hilda was born January 5, 1947 at Sioux City, IA, daughter of Dick and Cora (Hoekstra) DeRuyter. The family lived at Sunnyside, WA before moving to Rock Valley in 1955. After graduating from Western Christian High School, Hilda attended Dordt College at Sioux Center, IA for 2 years and then Western Iowa Tech at Sioux City, IA for a year earning an associates degree in sales and merchandising. She lived in Sioux City and was married to Dennis Jensen for 10 years. After her divorce she later moved back to Rock Valley in 1995 and worked at Hope Haven. Hilda was a foster grandparent; enjoyed playing cards and games with her friends; most of all, her faith and church fellowship were very important.

Hilda is survived by her brothers, John (Elaine) DeRuyter of Milford, IA, Ed (Rose) DeRuyter of Rock Valley, Rich (Beckie) DeRuyter of Verona, MO; sisters, Mary (Joe) Bryant of Rock Valley, and Marcy Chapman (Greg Ahrens) of Jackson, MN; nieces and nephews.

Hilda was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Cora DeRuyter; and a great-nephew, Leo Chapman-Nesseth.
