Myrdus Newman, 89, of Akron, died Wednesday (Feb. 7, 1990) in the Hawarden Community Hospital.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist church in Akron. The Rev. Burl Ratzsch officiated. Burial was in Grace Hill
Cemetery in Hawarden. Visitation was held Friday at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron. Soloist Jon Harris sang "In The Garden" and "How Great Thou Art". Carol Harris was organist.Pallbearers were Bob Lanning, Tom Newman, Danny Robertson, Ed Newman, Wayne Newman and Steve Wilcox.
Mrs. Newman, the former Myrdus Melton, was born Oct. 17, 1900, in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky, to George W. and Minnie Bell (Brooks) Melton. She attended rural area schools. She married Roscoe Newman in 1916 in Kentucky. In May 1919, the couple moved to the Chatsworth area and to the Akron area in 1923. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she was active in various church functions.
Survivors include three sons, Lendol of Melbourne, Ark., Losen of Dakota City, la., and Donald of Port Angeles, Wash.; 24 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, George Melton and Lloyd Melton, both of Louisville, Ky.; and a sister, Mrs. Ray (Virginia) Robertson of Hawarden.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Gladys; a sister, Bertha; and a brother. Elver.
