FARMER FATALLY GORED BY BULL AT ROCK VALLEY
Martin P. De Jager, 57, Rock Valley, who was gored in the chest Saturday [Sept. 30] by a bull at his farm near Rock Valley, died Saturday night in a Sioux City hospital.
Dr. Thomas L. Coriden, Woodbury County medical examiner, said Mr. De Jager was unconscious when brought to the hospital at 9:45 p.m. Saturday, and he died in surgery within a half hour.
Funeral services for Mr. De Jager were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Carmel Reformed Church. The Rev. Brooks Stevens officiated. Burial was in the Carmel cemetery under the direction of Vanderploeg Funeral Home of Sioux Center, Iowa.
Mr. De Jager married Gertrude Moss Aug. 12, 1933 at Canton, S.D. He was an elder in the Carmel Reformed Church.
Survivors include the widow; a son, Marvin at home; five daughters, Gloria, also at home, Mrs. William Riphagen and Mrs. Kenneth Winters, both of Sioux Center, and Mrs. Harvey Krogt and Mrs. John Van Holland, both of Rock Valley; two sisters, Mrs. Erwin Hooks and Mrs. Harriet Sprenkelink, both of Sioux City; five brothers, Albert and Raymond of Morris, Iowa, Andrew of Rock Valley, William of Buena Park, Calif., Elmer of Norwalk, Calif., and 18 grandchildren.
