Gertrude De Jager, March 14, 1911-January 10, 1998

Gertrude De Jager, 86, of Sioux Center died Saturday, January 10, at the Sioux Center Community Health Center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Carmel Reformed Church in Carmel with the Rev. Brad Langstraat officiating. Burial will be in the Carmel Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday after 8 a.m. with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.

Mrs. De Jager was born to Albert and Agnes (Kuyper) Moss March 14, 1911, in Carmel. She attended rural school. She married Martin De Jager August 12, 1933. They lived in Sioux City, Ireton, Bellflower, California, Middleburg and near Carmel. He died in 1967. She moved to the nursing home in July 1995. She enjoyed handwork, crocheting, games and gardening, and she especially enjoyed arranging flowers for many years.

She was a member of Carmel Reformed Church, where she taught Sunday School and catechism and held offices in the ladies' aid circles and guild. She served on the board of the World Home Bible League.

Survivors include a son, Marvin of Rock Rapids and spouse Jennie of Alvord; five daughters, Lavonne and Bill Riphagen of Sioux Center, Darlene and John Van Holland of Rock Valley, Elaine and Harvey Kragt of Colfax, Washington, Dianne Winters of Sheldon and Gloria and Jay Jackson of Zion, Illinois; a sister, Tracy De Jong of Sioux Center; 30 grandchildren; and 43 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son (Daniel), brothers (Neal, Marvin, John, Edward), a grandchild and three great grandchildren.
