Mrs. Don Barnard, 83, Hawarden, died Friday morning, Feb. 17, 1984, in a Hawarden nursing home after a long illness.
Services were at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20, in the Associated Church. The Rev. Fredrich Mellberg officiated. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery. A prayer service was held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden. Pallbearers were Keith Schuller, Henry Vander Esch, Joel Dekkers, Richard Ball, Milo Edmunds and Glenn Olsen.
Mrs. Barnard, the former Mary Metcalf, was born April 27, 1900, in Eagle Township, Sioux County. She was graduated from Hawarden High School in 1919 and from the University of Northern Iowa in 1922. She taught school at Onawa for nine years.
She was married Aug. 27, 1925, at Hawarden. In 1929, she and her husband moved to Hawarden where they operated the Barnard Funeral Home for 36 years, retiring in 1965.
Mrs. Barnard was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church which is now the Associated Church. She also was a member of PEO, Order of Eastern Star and MIC Club. She was secretary of the Hawarden Hospital Board for 24 years.
She is survived by her husband.
