Roberts, Densel Martin 1917 - 1990

Densel Martin Roberts, 72, Hawarden, died Friday (Jan. 5,1990) at a Sioux Falls, S.D. hospital.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the American Lutheran Church in Hawarden. Rev. Karla Kirkeby officiated. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery under direction of Porter-Dow Funeral Home, Hawarden.

Mr.. Roberts was born Oct. 9, 1917, on a farm near Gravity, Iowa, to George and Bessie Roberts. In 1938 they moved to Omaha, where Densel married Rose Heuer, Nov. 22,1941. He served in the U.S. army from 1940, going overseas in February of 1942. He was taken prisoner Sept. 14, 1944, and released in April of 1945 by troops of the U.S.S.R. He was discharged in August 1945. The couple farmed northeast of Hawarden from 1946 to 1964, when they retired into Hawarden. He was a member of the American Lutheran church, the Disabled American Veterans, the Prisoner of War Veterans, and the Hudson (S.D.) American Legion post.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Glenna, and her husband, Duane Fickbohm of Hawarden; his mother, and two brothers of Vancouver, Wash.; two grandchildren, Kim and her husband, Tom Heeren and Robin and his wife, Myong Chu Fickbohm and a great-grandchild, James Fickbohm.

He was preceded in death by his father and one granddaughter.
