William Francis "Bill" Hill. 65, Hawarden, died Friday, Jan. 5, 1990, in the Hawarden hospital of a long illness.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden. Rev. Loren V. Vogler, officiated. Funeral arrangement were under direction of Anderson- Perasso Funeral Home of Sioux City.

Mr. Hill was born March 13. 1924. to William and Teresa (Hoefer) Hill. He moved to Hawarden with his family as a child and had lived there since. He served in the army corps of engineers in the Phillipines during World War II. He married Margaret E. Degen, July 23, 1948 in rural Alcester, S.D. He was a longtime self-employed contractor in Hawarden. He served on the Hawarden city council from January 1964 to January 1970 and again from January 1972 to July 1973. He was mayor of Hawarden from July 1973 to May 1977 and again from January 1979 to January 1982. He was named Hawarden citizen of the year in 1987. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden, where he served in various church offices, including president of the organization. He was also a member of the Hawarden volunteer fire department.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret; two sons and their wives, Bradley and Camila of North Bonneville, Wash, and Michael and Rhonda of Ireton, Iowa; two daughters, Laurie Hill of Rock Island, Ill., and Mrs. Stan (Rebecca) Hendricks of Hawarden; six sisters, Mrs. Mary White of Hawarden, Mrs. Wayne (Bonnie) Von Hagel and Mrs. Pat Kiskie, both of Battle Lake, Minn., Mrs. Betty Dierks of Reedsport, Ore., Mrs. Barney (Geri) Koopsma of Hudson, S.D., and Mrs. Martin (Rose) Niemi of Brush Prairie, Wash., and Nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, John and James and one sister, Matie.
