Douma, Mrs. J. F. (Jennie) - 1886-1946

Mrs. J. F. Douma, a resident of Alton for nearly fifty years, passed on at her home early Saturday morning, Dec. 21. Her critical illness developed only a few weeks before her passing, which occurred shortly after return by ambulance from a medical examination at the famed Mayo clinic in Rochester, Minn. She passed away peacefully in her sleep. She was 62 years of age.

Mrs. Douma, nee Jennie Wiersma, was born Aug. 21, 1886 on a farm near Sheboygan Falls, Wis., the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. J. Wiersma. Her father died two years after her birth. In 1899 her mother was married to Dick Roos of Sheboygan Falls. In 1899 she accompanied her parents and older brother, Gardie Wiersma to Iowa, where the family moved to a farm four miles north of Alton where they lived for four years moving to Alton in 1903.

June 9, 1910, she was married to Jacob F. Douma of Alton and the couple have resided continuously in Alton. Mrs. Douma is survived by her husband and three children: Arnold of Omaha, Nebr.; Vernon of Sioux City, Iowa, and Julia (Mrs. Stewart De Groot) of Alton; by six grandchildren; one brother, Gardie Wiersma of Orange City; and a half-sister, Mrs. J. Vander Maaten of Sacramento, Calif.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the First Ref. Church with Rev. Hesselink officiating. Henrietta Dykstra and ???Borr sang a duet preceding the sermom. Interment was in Nassau Township cemetery.
