David S. Gearhart, 70, of Hawarden died Sunday, October 6 in a hospital in Hawarden after a short illness.

Services were held at 1:30 P.M., Wednesday in the Associated Church in Hawarden. The Rev. Fredrich Mellberg officiated. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery. Family visitation was from 7:30 to 8:30 P.M., Tuesday in the Dow Funeral Home.

Mr. Gearhart was born June 15, 1914, at Hawarden. He graduated from Hawarden High School in 1932 and from the University of South Dakota Law School in 1938. He married Mildred Hansen, Sept. 4, 1940 at Gregory, S.D. He owned and operated Gearhart Insurance Real Estate Agency in Hawarden. The agency celebrated 100 years in 1981.

He was a member of Abu Bekr Shrine Temple of Sioux City, Masonic Lodge in Hawarden, Associated Church, Independent Insurance Agents Association and Iowa Bar Association. He was an active civic leader and served as president of the Chamber of Commerce and HIDCO.

Survivors include his wife and one daughter, Joan Gearhart of Ames.
