Mrs. J.P. Jensen Expires at 71
5-DAY ILLNESS PROVES FATAL TO 71-YEAR OLD WOMAN
Native of Denmark Had Lived Here For Past 26 Years; Came to This Country in 1910
An illness of only five days proved fatal Tuesday to Mrs. Jens Jensen. She died in the Hawarden community hospital at the age of 71 years.
Mrs. Jensen suffered a gall bladder attack Friday and was taken to the hospital that day. She suffered a stroke the following day and the combined ailments resulted in her passing.
Funeral services will be held at the Barnard Funeral Home at 1:30 and at the Baptist church at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon, with the Rev. Ewing Holland in charge.Mrs. Jensen’s maiden name was Anna Dorothea Marie Thomsen. She was born in Gjottrup Sogn, Thisted county, Denmark, August 16, 1870, the daughter of Peter Christian and Madsene Thomsen.
She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith 10 days after she passed her 15th birthday. She was married to Jens Peter Jensen on Dec. 14, 1898. They continued to make their home in their native country for 11 years after their marriage.
Mr. Jensen migrated to the United States in the fall of 1909 and, with her seven children, Mrs. Jensen followed him the following August. They settled in Turner county, SD, remaining there for about five years before they moved to Hawarden in 1915. She lived the last 26 years of her life here.
After coming here, she united with the Baptist, during the pastorate of the Rev. John Parker.
Mrs. Jensen enjoyed good health until the last two years of her life. She never was seriously ill until the sickness, which ended in her death.
Surviving her are her husband, eight children, Walter Jensen of Akron, Mrs. Dagmar Marie Lewis of Chadwick, MO., Mrs. Katherine Dowdey, Miss Minnie Jensen, Mrs. Johanna Lindgren, Sophus Jensen, Mrs. Olga Knight and Mrs. Elizabeth Cain, all of Hawarden. She is survived also by a sister, Mrs. Chris Nelsom of Corry, Penna., and by 25 grandchildren.
