Alvina Den Hartog, 81, of Orange City died Sunday, April 15, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital Long Term Care Facility.
Services were at 10 A.M., Wednesday, April 18, at First Reformed Church in Orange City with the Rev. Steven Vander Molen officiating. Burial was at Newkirk Cemetery, rural Hospers.
Mrs. Den Hartog was born August 6, 1919, in rural Boyden, the daughter of Bert and Dora (Van Stryland) Smit. She was raised mostly at Orange City. She married Alvin "Bob" Den Hartog on November 17, 1935. They farmed at Newkirk and later moved into Boyden. He died April 1, 1975, in Orange City. She had been employed as a cook at the Newkirk School and as an aide at the Sheldon Nursing Home. She also worked at Smit and Son Packing in Boyden and was manager of the Shady West Apartments in Orange City. She became a resident of the Long Term Care Facility in 1999.
She was a member of First Reformed Church of Orange City. In earlier years, she had been an active member of First Reformed Church of Boyden. She enjoyed crocheting.
Survivors include her daughter and her husband, Brenda and Henry Van Der Brink of Boyden; three grandchildren; and a stepsister, Sally Ostlund of Bertha, Minnesota.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Brent, at age 7; a sister, Jeanette Fieberg; and a stepsister, Dorothy Kleinwolterink.
