Obituary: Hawarden, Iowa- LaVerle A. "Rozy" Rozell, 71, of Hawarden, died suddenly on Sunday, August 15, 2010 at the Avera McKennan Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the American Lutheran Church in Hawarden with Rev. Tom Van Engen officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Wednesday, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden.
LaVerle A. "Rozy" Rozell was born April 18, 1939 in Hawarden, Iowa, the son of Arvil and Mildred (Oetken) Rozell. He served two years in the US Navy from July 1957 to May of 1961. LaVerle farmed for several years near Madison, SD and Hawarden and worked for many years in refrigeration. He was a feed salesman for Harvest States and worked for a short time at a hog confinement prior to retirement in 2001. He then worked part time at a convenience store in Alcester that his brother Myron owned and built.
LaVerle enjoyed woodworking, fishing, playing pool and having coffee with the guys. He loved taking trips to Oklahoma with his brothers and loved the outdoors and mowing the lawn.
He is survived by his special friend of 11 years, Geraldine Day; son, Mark Rozell and wife Jody of Boise, Idaho; daughters, Michelle Rozell of Waterville, Minnesota, Cindy Landsteiner and husband Lee of Waseca, Minnesota, and Candy Sonnek and husband Mark of St. Clair, Minnesota; brothers, Randy and wife Jean of Bagley, Iowa, Dallas and wife Kay of Blanchard, Oklahoma, and Myron of Mapleton, Iowa; special aunt, Irene Pralle of Rock Rapids, Iowa; grandchildren, Stephanie, Matt, and Josh Landsteiner, Anna and Adam Rozell, Brooke and Lily Sonnek, and Andrew Konop; 3 great-grandchildren; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
