Obituary: Rock Valley, IA: Lloyd Munneke, 71, died Friday, August 13, 2010 at Avera Heart Hospital, Sioux Falls. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at Trinity Christian Reformed Church, Rock Valley. Burial at Valley View Cemetery. Visitation Monday until 4:30 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley and with family present 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at Trinity Christian Reformed Church.
Lloyd Munneke was born August 3, 1939 to Albert and Clara (Haugum) Munneke in Geddes, SD. He was raised on a farm in the Corsica, SD area and graduated from Corsica High School in 1957. Lloyd was united in marriage to Pearl Van Zee on November 8, 1957 in New Holland, SD. He worked for his father-in-law at Van Zee Motor Sales for 2 years. He then attended Dordt College from 1959 – 1961 and then Augustana College from 1961 – 1963. Lloyd taught school from 1963 – 1966 at Brandon Valley High School, Brandon, SD. He then returned to college to earn his Masters Degree in workshop administration for the handicap from the University of Wisconsin from 1966 – 1967. Lloyd worked for Hope Haven from 1967 - 1985 and was instrumental in implementing the workshop for the handicapped. Lloyd bought P & K Pest Control in 1985 and retired in 2009. He was a charter member of Trinity Christian Reformed Church, member of Optimist Club, Rotary, Arts Council, City Council, Woodstock Treatment Center Board, Family Crisis Center Board, Metal Craft Board, Chamber Board President, Creative Living Board, Crossroad Services and Governors Committee. Lloyd enjoyed having coffee with friends, telling jokes and stories, painting pictures, and spending many hours in his workshop.

Lloyd is survived by his wife, Pearl; children: Marlys Fisher of Sioux Falls, SD, Kay Munneke of Waukee, IA, Kendall (Shelly) Munneke, Shelly (Ric) Kooistra, Jeaneen (Herlan) DeJager all of Rock Valley, IA; grandchildren: Damien, Danielle and Dana Fisher, Travis (Larscina), Brandon and Aaron DeWeerd, Bobby and Sophia Karau, Corey (Natasha), Kyle and fiancée Megan and Kassidy Munneke, Carley, Daley and Daniel Hoogendoorn, Eric, Alex, Andy and Emily DeJager; great-grandchildren: Eden Fisher, Lyric DeWeerd and Lexie DeWeerd, Kacen and Maci Munneke; brother Keith (Ruth) Munneke of Edwardsburg, MI; sister Charolette (Richard) Larsch of Mount Vernon, SD; sisters-in-law, Alvina Munneke of Willmar, MN, Delia (Gradus) Veurink of Corsica, SD; brother-in-law, Howard (Betty) Van Zee of Platte, SD.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Clara; step-father, Isaac Isakson; brother, Lyle Munneke; a niece and nephew; father and mother-in-law, John and Jessie Van Zee.
