Obituary: Sanborn, IA - Dorothy Ver Mulm, age 92, formerly of Rock Valley, IA, passed away Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn, IA. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday at First Reformed Church, Rock Valley. Burial at Valley View Cemetery. Rev. Mike Van Hamersveld officiating. Visitation will be Sunday with the family present from 2-4 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley.

Dorothy Van Roekel was born July 24, 1918 in Sanborn, IA, the daughter of George and Fannie (Haagsma) Van Roekel. She married Jacob "Jake" Ver Mulm of Rock Valley February 19, 1941 in Edgerton, MN. Together they lived in Rock Valley until March, 1957, then began farming west of Rock Valley. They retired from farming in 1978 and moved back to Rock Valley. Jake passed away October 29, 2002. Dorothy was a member of the First Reformed Church of Rock Valley and the Women’s Ministries of the Reformed Church.

Dorothy is survived by her sons: Lee (Hazel) Ver Mulm, Cedar Falls, IA, Roger (Lynne) Ver Mulm, Stockton, CA and Dennis (Martha) Ver Mulm, Urbandale, IA; 4 grandchildren: Lisa (Darrin) Dreyer, Laura (Bob) De Boer, Scott Ver Mulm and Molly Ver Mulm; 6 great-grandchildren: Carson, Camryn and Chloe Dreyer, Andrew, Benjamin and Adam De Boer; 2 sisters: Fran (Earl) Benz of Pahrump, NV and Ada Van Roekel of Lancaster, CA; 1 brother, Abe (Maxine) Van Roekel of Minden, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jake; sisters: Bertha Van Roekel and Nancy Sinkey; brother, Richard Van Roekel.
