James R. (Jim) Niehus, 62, Merrill, died Sunday, May 17, 1992, at Floyd Valley hospital in Le Mars after a brief illness.
Services were Wednesday at Assumption Catholic Church, Merrill. Rev. Richard Ball officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery, under direction of Luedtke- Feuerstein funeral home in Le Mars.
Mr. Niehus was born Nov. 24, 1929, near Alton to Andy and Deline (Wolbers) Niehus and attended St. Mary's Elementary School. He moved with his parents to the Oyens area and attended Le Mars Central high school. He married Helen Traufler Feb. 5, 1951 at St. Joseph's Catholic church in Le Mars. After their marriage, he was an over the road truck driver for Hagen Trucking at Sioux City. They moved to Parkers Prairie, Minn, and farmed for over 15 years before moving back to Merrill. He was currently employed by Wagner Trucking at Merrill as a driver. He was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Merrill.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Phillip and his wife, Janet of Le Mars; three daughters, Mary Ellen Miller and her husband, Floyd of Bismarck, N.D., Bonnie Vorderbruggen and her husband, Gerald of Luverne, Minn, and Patty Mc- Allister and her husband, Paul of Ocala, Fla.; three grandsons and five granddaughters; his mother, Mrs. Adeline Niehus of Oyens; two brothers Ralph Niehus and his wife Jean and Pat Niehus, all of Le Mars; two sisters, Mrs. Gerald (Donna) Frerichs of Le Mars and Mrs. Steve (Kay) Theeler of Akron.
He was preceded in death by his father; a brother Doyle and a sister, LaVonne Niehus.
