Hilda E. Schmidt, 84, Hawarden, died Friday, May 8, 1992, at Hass Hillcrest Care Center in Hawarden.

Services were Tuesday at the American Lutheran Church in Hawarden. Rev. Karla J. Kirkeby officiated. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery, under direction of Porter- Dow funeral home in Hawarden.

Mrs. Schmidt, the former Hilda Frerichs, was born April 6, 1908, in Preston township, near Akron, Iowa, daughter of Carl Klaus and Margaret (Harms) Frerichs. She was baptized April 24, 1908, and confirmed Jan. 25, 1923. She married John G. Schmidt June 15, 1927, at rural Akron. They farmed in the Craig area. They retired and moved to Hawarden in September 1974. Mrs. Schmidt was a member of the American Lutheran church in Hawarden

Survivors include her husband, John of Hawarden; a son and his wife, Donald C. and Marlys Schmidt of Hawarden; a daughter and her husband, Derith and Calvin Robertson of Akron; two sisters, Emma Frerichs and Minnie Frerichs, both of Akron; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Claus Frerichs and George Frerichs; and two sisters, Meta Siebels and Anna Kroepel
