Funeral services for Mrs. Lena Gacke, 87, a long time resident of Rock Valley, were held Wednesday at 9 A.M., at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. David McGoey officiating. Burial was made in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Mrs. Gacke passed away Sunday at 2:10 P.M., at the Panska Nursing Home in Hawarden. The Rev. Friedman of Hawarden, Mr. & Mrs. William Gacke of Rock Valley, Mrs. Alfred Jahde of Webster, S.D., and Mr. & Mrs. T. A. Hemmingson of Alton were at her bedside at the time of her death. The body was taken to the home of her son, William, until the time of her funeral. Mrs. Gacke was 87 years, 10 months and 6 days old at the time of her passing.

Mrs. Gacke was born August 22, 1886 (correction 1866), in Holland, the daughter of Johanna and Ambrose Splear and came to the United States at the age of 5. She spent most of her life in this vicinity and in parts of Minnesota.

She married Henry Gacke on November 8, 1888. He preceded her in death in 1914. Unto this union twelve children were born. Surviving are Frank, Olympia, Wash.; William, Rock Valley; Mrs. Alfred Jahde (Irene) of Webster, S.D.; Mrs. T. A. Hemmingston (Mary), Alton; Mrs. F. A. Greiner (Lucy) San Jose, CA.; Mrs. Henry Vouk (Emma) and Mrs. F. J. Edelbrock (Ella) both of St. Cloud, MN., John, Edward, Louis, and two infant sons, George and Samuel, preceded her in death. She also leaves 29 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Three brothers, Samuel, Henry and Ed Splear, also preceded her in death.

The following grandsons were pallbearers: Reginald Gacke, LeRay Gacke, Louis Jahde, Robert Miller, Philip Vouk, and William Edelbrock.

The Frazier Funeral home of Hawarden was in charge of arrangements.
