John L. Wilkison, 80, of Hawarden, died Monday, Feb. 24, 1992, at the Hawarden Community Hospital.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hawarden. Rev. Loren Volger will officiate. Burial will be at Grace Hill Cemetery under direction of Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden.

Mr. Wilkison was born June 9, 1911, at Blanchard, the son of Roy and Nell (Olson) Wilkison. He moved to Hawarden with his family as a child. He attended the Hawarden schools and graduated in 1932. He married Luela Eilers Nov. 16, 1936, in Hwarden. He was a lifelong and ice business, and then owned the Hawarden Produce and Hatchery. In 1953, he and his wife opened John's Place Cafe and operated the business until retiring in 1976. The couple spent the winter months with friends in Weslaco, Texas.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Gary and his wife, Jeannine of Hawarden; a daughter, Joann and her husband, Jack Breslin of Warrington, Pa., two brothers, Larry of West Lafayette, Ind., and Wegner of Hudson, S.D., Veronica Heldt and Wanda Kennedy, both of Hawarden; and three grandchildren, Tomiko Wilkerson of Houston, Texas, Lisa and her husband, Jeff Klemme of Fordyce, Neb., and Mike Wilkison of Hawarden.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

John L. Wilkison, 80, of Hawarden, IA, died Monday, February 24, 1992 at the Hawarden Community Hospital. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, February 27, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden, with Rev. Loren Vogler officiating. Burial will be at Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden.

Mr. Wilkison was born June 9, 1911, at Blanchard, IA, the son of Roy and Nell (Olson) Wilkison. He moved to Hawarden with his family as a child. He attended the Hawarden schools and graduated in 1932. He married Luella Eilers November 16, 1936 in Hawarden. He was a lifelong businessman in Hawarden. He started a trucking and ice business, and then owned the Hawarden Produce and Hatchery. In 1953, he and his wife opened John's Place Café and operated the business until retiring in 1976. The couple spent the winter months with friends in Weslaco, TX.

Survivors include his wife, Luella; a son, Gary and his wife, Jeannine, of Hawarden; a daughter, Joanne Breslin and her husband, Jack, of Warrington, PA; two brothers, Larry of West Lafayette, IN; and Dike of Edmonds, WA; three sisters, Radah Wegner, of Hudson, SD; Veronica Heldt and Wanda Kennedy, both of Hawarden; and three grandchildren, Tomiko Wilkison of Houston, TX; Lisa Fordyce, NE; and Mike Wilkison of Hawarden. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister .
