Mrs. Chas. Elliott, whose serious illness was mentioned in last week's Index, died on Monday morning at the home of her son Thomas in this city. Her funeral occurred Wednesday from the Methodist Church, the interment taking place in Hope Cemetery.
Sarah Oliver was born on May 4, 1823, in Cornwall, Eng. When but six years old her parents emigrated to America, settling in Pennsylvania.
On May 10, 1842, she was married to Edward H. Babcock, who died Dec. 19, 18??. On August 19, 18??, Mrs. Babcock was married to Chas. Elliott who now survives her. By her first husband four sons were born to Mrs. Elliott, and in the Elliott family there are four sons and two daughters. With the exception of one daughter all of Mrs. Elliott's children are alive through none but the children of the second marriage could be present at the funeral. Mr. & Mrs. Elliott removed to Linn County, Iowa in 1865 and in the early eighties to Sioux County. From early childhood Mrs. Elliott has been a devoted Christian, her father having been a local Methodist preacher. She was one of those good old Christian ladies who are always able to give a convincing testimony of the pleasure and happiness to be derived from a close walking with her Saviour. She was more than willing to be taken into the home of rest her faith told her was prepared for her. The sons and daughter can be content in the thought that though she is parted from them she has reached her long looked for "Haven of Rest".
