The death angel has once more entered our midst and borne one more soul to realms of light. Last Thursday night about the midnight hour, Ed Gaffney, son of E. F. Gaffney and wife, of Washington Township, closed his eyes forever on the scenes of this life and entered on his eternal rest. Young Eddie was a student of our normal school and lived with his aunt, Mrs. Callahan, at whose home his death occurred from pneumonia.

The funeral services were held Sunday at the Catholic Church, Rev. Father Valentine, of New Jersey, assisted Father Donahue in rendering the last sad offices for the dead.

Eddie Gaffney was born in Jackson County, Iowa, 18 years ago last August. He was a young boy of promise, just budding into manhood, the hope and comfort of a devoted father's and mother's heart, and the suddenness of his death has thrown a load of sorrow on their lives that time, and healer through he be, can never quite remove. The Independent offers its heart felt sympathy to the stricken family.
