FRANCES BELLE MAHONEY

Frances Belle Mahoney, aged 17 years and 11 months, the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward G. Mahoney, of Marshalltown, Ia., died at 10 o'clock a.m. on the 17th day of April, 1924. The cause of her death was from tuberculosis of the bowels, for which she underwent an operation on February 1st. The body was shipped to Boyden, arriving here last Friday evening, and funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, at the United Presbyterian church, with Dr. W.T. McConnell officiating. Interment was made in the family lot at the Boyden cemetery.

Deceased was born in Boyden, Sioux County, Iowa, on the 18th day of May, 1906. Her home was in Boyden up to the autumn of 1923 when with her family she removed to Marshalltown, Iowa. Frances was a member of the graduating class of the Boyden High School of 1923. She was of a very pleasant disposition and was much loved by a host of young friends, both in school and in church. She was among one of the first to confess Christ and unite with the United Presbyterian church, under the pastorate of the present pastor. Bright, happy and cheerful, Frances carried sunshine with her wherever she went. She had always a smile and a pleasant word for her friends. Her death came as a dark shadow to her friends and to her relatives who loved her so dearly. During her school days in Boyden her sweet face and winsome ways won the hearts of both teacher and students. She is survived by her parents, three sisters, Edna, Mildred, and Esther, and one brother Edward, Jr.

The Reporter extends its heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved relatives in their hour of sorrow.

When we see a precious blossom
That we tended with such care,
Rudely taken from our bosom,
How our aching hearts despair!
Round its little grave we linger,
Till the setting sun is low,
Feeling all our hopes have perished
With the flower cherished so.
We shall sleep, but not forever,
There will be a glorious dawn;
We shall meet to part, no never,
On the resurrection morn!

CARD OF THANKS

Being unable to see all of our friends personally, we wish to use this means of expressing our thanks to all those who gave their aid at the funeral of our beloved daughter and friend; and also for the beautiful floral offerings.--Mr. and Mrs. E.G. Mahoney and family, and Arthur Van Dyke.
