Kathryn B. Degen, 80, of Hawarden, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 1991, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services were Monday at Porter- Dow funeral home in Ireton. Rev. H. H. Schauland officiated. Burial was in Pleasant Hill cemetery at Ireton.

Mrs. Degen, the former Kathryn Braaks, was born July 18, 1911, at Ireton, daughter of Henry and Anna (Amen) Braaks. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran church in Ireton. She graduated from ' the Ireton high school in 1929. She married Herman H. Degen July 16, 1938 at West St. Paul, Minn. They lived in many different areas during his Air Force service. In 1981, they moved to Hawarden. Mr. Degen died Nov. 6, 1983. She had lived at Hillcrest Care Center in Hawarden since May 1990.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran church in Hawarden, and a member of the Air Force Sergeant's Association and its ladies auxiliary.

Survivors include a brother and his wife, Carl (Hans) and Lela Braaks of Ireton and one sister, Mrs. Frank (Erma) Flippin of Upland, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Louis and a sister, Ruth.
