MRS. BARBER, 82, DIES IN ARIZONA
Services Held for Former Resident of Hawarden for Many Years; Was Prominent in Social, Civic Affairs

Mrs. George H. Barber, 82, of Minneapolis, a prominent early day resident of Hawarden, died Sunday, June 8, at Prescott, Ariz.

Last fall when her health began to fail she went to Prescott to spend the winter with her daughter, Mrs. Edith Byrne. Recently she suffered a fracture of the leg. The body was taken to Grandview, Iowa, for burial.

When the Barber family lived in Hawarden, Mr. Barber was in the grain business. During the many years she lived here Mrs. Barber took an interest in the social and civic affairs of this city. When Hawarden needed a library she worked diligently to solve this problem and finally organized the Hawarden public library. During the first years the library was located in the Hawarden Independent office.

Mrs. Barber enjoyed writing and at various times her articles were accepted by magazines. After going to Minneapolis she founded the home folks association of the Rainbow division of World War I.

Besides Mrs. Byrne she is survived by another daughter, Mrs. Bertha Mitchell, Letts, Iowa; two sons, D.[?] Ronald, Letts, and Hugh H., a Minneapolis attorney; a brother, Roy Ronald, owner and publisher of the Mitchell, S.D., Daily Republican, and three grandchildren.
