Richard E. Packard

Richard E. Packard, 60, of Chatsworth, Iowa, died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 1992, at the Royal C. Johnson Veteran Memorial hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Monday at Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden. The Rev. Raymond Paterson, V.A. hospital chaplain officiated. Burial will be at a later date in Lusk, Wyo.

Mr. Packard was born March 7, 1932 in Van Tassel, Wyo., the son of Robert and Elsie (Rodgers) Packard. He served in the U.S. army during the Korean war from 1950-1960. 'He married Gladys Erlywine April 11, 1953. He married Edith Moehlmann- Jungen Aug. 20, 1966, in Canyon City, Colo. He was employed as an electrical construction worker for Dominion Construction Co. for several years and later for other construction: 'companies.'' He and his wife operated Edie's Bar and Grill in Chatsworth from Nov. 1, 1982, until Nov. 1, 1991. Mr. Packard was a life member of the American Legion, VFW," and the DAV. He was commander of the American Legion Post 186 of Akron from 1987 1988, and VFW Post 915 of Elk Point, S.D., from 1985-1986. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No .1865.

Survivors include his wife, Edith of Chatsworth; a daughter, Marilyn Kay Morgan of Guernsey, Wyo.; a step-daughter, Lois Solbue of Alcester, S.D.; three brothers, William . Packard of Douglas, Wyo., Robert Packard of Parson, Kan., and Donald Packard of Torrington, Wyo.; three sisters, Dorothy Brewer of Torrington, Rosezette Jordan of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Doris Gideon of Joplin, Mo.; and two grandchildren, Richard and Rebecca.
