Esther M. Watkins, 79, of Hawarden, died Tuesday, April 28, 1992, at the Hawarden Community hospital.

Services were Friday at Trinity Lutheran church in Hawarden with Rev. Loren Vogler officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill cemetery, Hawarden, under direction of Porter- Dow funeral home, Hawarden.

Mrs. Watkins, the former Esther Have, was born May 23, 1912, in Sioux county near Hawarden, the daughter of Rudolph and Theda (Johnson) Klave. She grew up in the Hawarden and Ireton area where she attended school. She married Truman Watkins June 14, 1940, in Sioux City. The couple made their home in Hawarden. She was employed as a nurse’s aide at Maples nursing home for 15 years. Mrs. Watkins was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran church and ladies aid of the church. She also was a member of the Hawarden Hospital Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband; ; two sons and their wives, Larry and Janice and Doug and Jeri, all of Sioux City; a daughter, Mary and her husband, Jim Kindig of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a sister, Mary Johnson of Hawarden; and 11 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Rudy Klave, Art Have, Bert Klave, and Onnie Have; and five sisters, Sophie Van Wyhe, Lena Edmunds, Annie MarShall, Lizzie Short and Martha Klave.

Loren Vogler officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery, Hawarden. Visitation was held at Porter-Dow Funeral Home, Hawarden.
