Cornelius (Cornie) Van Surksum, 82, died Sunday morning at the Orange City Hospital following a brief illness.
He was born January 27, 1900 at Orange City. On August 2, 1927, Cornie married Kathryn Vander Schaaf at Orange City. They lived most of their life in Alton, where Cornie operated the Case Implement Co. for forty years. Mrs. Van Surksum died on July, 1969.
He was a member of the Alton Reformed Church.
Survivors include; one son Edwin of Omaha, Nebraska; one daughter, Mrs. Merle ( JoEllen) Sorgdrager of Rock Rapids; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Ed of Hospers and Henry of Leota, Minn.
Preceded in death by his wife, one brother, five sisters, two half brothers and two half sisters.

Cornelius “Cornie” Van Surkmum, 82, died Sunday, June 6 at an Orange City hospital after a brief illness. Services were at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Alton Reformed Church. The Rev. Ray Tilstra officiated. Burial was at Nassau Township Cemetery in Alton. A family visitation was held from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the Van Gelder Funeral Home in Orange City.

Mr. Van Surksum was born Jan 27, 1900 in Orange City. He married Kathryn Vander Schaaf on Aug. 2, 1927, in Orange City. Most of his life was spent in the Alton area where he owned and operated a Case Implement business for 40 years. He was a member of the Alton Reformed Church.

Survivors include a son, Edwin of Omaha; a daughter, Mrs. Merle (JoEllen) Sorgdrager of Rock Rapids; two grandchildren; one great grandchild; two brother Ed of Hospers and Henry of Leotas, Minn.
