Sophie M. Krusen

Sophie M. Krusen, 78, of Hornick died Saturday, August 6, 1988 in a nursing home in Onawa after a short illness.

Services were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 9, 1988 in the Walter Funeral Home in Mapleton with the Rev. Richard Hempenius officiating. Burial was in Grant Township Cemetery, near Rodney.

Mrs. Krusen, the former Sophie Hillman, was born July 25, 1910 to Fred L. and Mary [Slusser] Hillman in Ireton. She married Marlow Krusen September 7, 1930, at Hawarden. The couple farmed at Hawarden and Ireton before moving to the Hornick area 37 years ago. Mr. KIrusen died June 22, 1981.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Harvey [Mary] Vellinga of Marshalltown and Mrs. Betty Newman of Smithland; a brother, Fred Hillman of Hawarden; 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Jack and a brother.
