James William Postma, the son of John and Nicolette (Huygens) Postma, was born in Ireton, Iowa on August 18, 1914. He spent his childhood years in the Ireton and Orange City, Iowa areas. He graduated high school at Northwestern Academy in Orange City.
He was united in marriage to Jessie Kuypers on December 10, 1953 in Chicago, Illinois. The couple farmed together outside of Sanborn for many years. They were blessed with four daughters, Susan, Letty, Carol and Sandra. They retired from farming in 1978, and built a home in Sanborn. They continued living there until entering the Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn in April of 2010. Jim passed away there on Monday, July 19, 2010 at the age of 95.
Jim was a person who always preferred to look on the positive side of life. He enjoyed traveling, reading, carpentry and all sports. He looked forward to his Wednesday afternoon pool shoot, and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He was a charter member of the Sanborn Golf Course. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Sanborn First Reformed Church where he had served as an elder, Sunday school superintendent, adult Sunday school teacher, and participated in the adult choir.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Jessie; his daughters, Susan (Curt) Vanden Hull of Papillion, NE, Letty (Bryon) Storm of Sheldon, IA, Carol (Jim) Bydlon of Sanborn, and Sandra (Bill) Kemner of Brandon, SD; seven grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Carl, Andrew and Calvin Postma, and a grandson, Quentin Storm.
