Peter DeJong (aka) DeYoung Called Beyond.
Rock Valley Peter DeJong passed away in the home of his daughter Mrs. Dora Roberts in LeMars, Sunday, March 7, 1937 at the age of 81 years. Peter de Jong was born in the Netherlands in 1856 and in 1882 was united in marriage to Miss Agnes (Akke) Reitsma. The family then came to America in 1885 locating at LaCrosse, WI where they remained for a time before trecking across the country to the vicinity of Middleburg, IA. In the next two years they made Hull and Doon respectively heir homes. They located in Rock Valley in 1891.
To this union were born nine children, five sons and four daughters, one dying in infancy in the Netherlands and John who died in 1929 (actually he died in 1932, as submitter did some research for a family member) The seven who survive are Mrs. Dora Roberts of LeMars, Zebe of Cherokee, Mrs. Clara Fray of Chippewa Falls WI, Mrs. Jennie Merritt of Sioux Falls SD, Mrs. Rose Stiffer of St. Paul MN, Henry DeJong of LeMars and Arthur DeJong of Rock Valley and several grand and great grandchildren. The wife Mrs. DeJong preceded him in death March 1, 1929 (it was 1932)
Funeral services were held in the Roberts home in LeMars, Tuesday and the body was brought here for burial in the family plot in Valley View Cemetery.
