MARK LYNOTT KILLED IN CAR CRASH FRIDAY

Mark Lynott, 18, of Woodstock, Ill., was fatally injured in an auto accident about midnight last Friday [March 31]. He died about an hour later without regaining consciousness.

The other five passengers in the car driven by Mark escaped injury.

Mark Lynott came to Hawarden in 1940 to live with his grandmother, Mrs. Ed Lynott, because of his mother's illness. His mother died in 1942. Mark continued to live here and finished one year in the local high school. He graduated from Woodstock high school last June.

He was the youngest son of J. S. Lynott, who is now at Oakdale, Iowa. Mark was born at Crystal Lake, Ill., June 28, 1931. Survivors besides his father are three brothers, John, a student at Marquette university, Milwaukee, Robert of Chicago, and Norman, a student at Loyola university in Chicago.

Funeral services were held Monday morning at St. Mary's church at Crystal Lake with Rev. Fr. Egan reading mass. The five companions who were with Mark in the accident served as pall bearers. Mr. and Mrs. John McCarthy and Misses Catherine [and] Loretto Lynott of Hawarden, accompanied by Mrs. James Gehan and daughter Mary of Sioux Falls and Mr. and Mrs. Emmet Lynott of Sioux City and J. S. Lynott of Oakdale attended the funeral.
