John Maassen, 79, of Rock Valley, died last Tuesday [May 29] in a Sioux City hospital of brief illness. Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Porter Funeral Home at Rock Valley. Burial was in the Valley View Cemetery.

Mr. Maassen was born July 12, 1899, in The Netherlands. He came to America at an early age. He married Emma Ymker Jan. 16, 1925, at Corsica, S.D.

Survivors include the widow; two brothers, Gerrit of Rock Valley and Maas of Sioux Center; three sisters, Mrs. Ralph Van Ginkel of Rock Valley, Mrs. Marinus Rozeboom of Holland, Mich., and Mrs. Jake Van Voorst of Rock Valley.
