MAASSEN, DRIESEN, DIBBET

Raymond Maassen, 75, of Rock Valley died unexpectedly Sunday, April 22, at the Hegg Memorial Health Center in Rock Valley.

A funeral service was Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Netherlands Reformed Church of Sioux Center with the Rev. E. Adams officiating. Interment was in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

Maassen was born May 2, 1931, to Maas and Tillie (Driesen) Maassen at Rock Valley. He was raised in the Rock Valley area and attended country school through the eighth grade. On September 23, 1952, he married Joan Dibbet at Sioux Center. They farmed near Rock Valley for 38 years before moving to their current residence east of Rock Valley in 1991.

He was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation of Sioux Center. Family was very important to him.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joan Maassen of Rock Valley; 12 children, Ron and Joyce of Boyden, Daryl and Darlene of Doon, Marlin of Rock Valley, Sharla and Jim Boon of Rock Valley, John and Judy of Rock Valley, Thomas and Paula of Rock Valley, David and Lisa of Hudson, South Dakota, James and Renita of Sioux Center, Paul and Shelley of Rock Valley, Mary and Dean Maassen of Valley Springs, South Dakota, Tamela and Terry Van Beek of Inwood and Timothy and Carrie of Rock Valley; 52 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances and Jacob Rus of Rock Valley and Eileen and John Klootwyk of Sheldon; sister, Sally Koedam of Sheldon; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Daniel and Christian; three grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Andrew Koedam.
