Florence Marie Lucas, age 91, of Brookings, died Thursday, June 24, 2010, at the United Retirement Center in Brookings. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, June 26, 2010, at Faith Reformed Church in Brookings, with interment at 3:30 P.M. at the Hospers Cemetery, Hospers, Iowa. Visitations will be from 5-8 P.M. Friday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings.

Florence Marie (Van Dyke) Lucas was born July 24, 1918, in Inwood, Iowa, to Albert and Mable (Roetman) Van Dyke. She received her education in Hospers, Iowa. On January 14, 1948, she married William John Lucas at Hospers. After their marriage, the couple farmed for seven years near Slayton, Minnesota. They then farmed near Hospers, before moving to a farm near White, South Dakota, in 1975. They continued to farm near White until their retirement in 1981, when they moved into Brookings. Marie was employed for twelve years at Brookview Manor in Brookings. Bill died July 24, 1997. Marie began residing at the United Retirement Center on May 21, 2005.

Marie was a member of Faith Reformed Church in Brookings and the Senior Citizens. She liked to garden and preserve what she grew. She enjoyed traveling and sightseeing, and especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include two sons: Robert W. Lucas and his wife Norma of Sioux Falls, and David L. Lucas and his wife Vonnie of White, South Dakota; four grandchildren: Angela (Aaron) Myers, Jeffrey (Mindy) Lucas, Chad Lucas, and Christi (Aaron) Ersland; six great-grandchildren: Easton and Kendall Ersland, Elijah and Kenna Myers, and McKenzie and Brody Lucas; three sisters: Agatha Vanderpol of Loveland, Colorado, Arlyce Schutt, of Sheldon, Iowa, and Burdella DeVries of Santa Rosa, California; and a sister-in-law, Alice Van Dyke, of Hospers, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Raymond, and sister, Velma Van Meeteren.
