Alice was the daughter of Anthony and Marie (Jansen) Vanden Berg. In 1913, she came to America and lived at Grand Rapids, Michigan. In 1916, she moved to Iowa, where she has since lived.

She married Peter Gerritsen in September of 1922. They had two children, Mina, and her husband, Ralph Fear, of Everly and Marvin Gerritsen, and his wife, Kay, of Ogden, Utah.

She married John Den Hartog on December 11, 1946, at Orange City. He passed away January 11, 1990, at Orange City, IA.

Alice was a member of Calvary Christian Reformed Church, where she was active in the women’s organizations.

She was also a supporter of the Christian School through the Monica Society.

In earlier years, she was a nurses aid at the Doornink Hospital. She was an accomplished seamstress, including providing alterations for L & K Clothing for twenty-five years.

In addition to her children, she is survived by six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren, four step-great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Johanna Vis, of Hull; and Anthonette, and her husband, John Van Surksum, of Chino, California; and nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Chris Vanden Berg, and sister, Christina Vanden Berg.
