Jeffrey Alan was raised in Rock Valley until 1968, when his family moved to Pella. In 1976, they moved to Sioux Center. He graduated from Unity Christian High School in Orange City in 1981 and from Dordt College in Sioux Center in 1986. He then earned his Masters Degree in English from Notre Dame University in South Bend, Indiana. He later entered the Ph.D. program at the University of California at Berkley.
After receiving his masters degree, he was a teacher at Central Valley Christian High School in Visalia, California. for a year. He then became a professional actor with the Climb Theatre in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He returned to California, where he pursued his acting career. He later also became employed in the Medical Research Center at the University of California in San Francisco, as an administrative assistant.
He was a member of the Metropoiitan Community Church of San Francisco, where he was active in their music department.
Survivors include his parents, Merl Edwin and Rosa Jane (Bouma) Alons of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; two sisters, Debra Alons of Houston, Texas; and Monique Kuiper of Montclair, California; a brother, Jason of Sioux Center; and two grandmothers, Maggie Alons of Sanborn: and Jennie Bouma of Orange City.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers; Ben Alons and Ralph Bouma.
Memorials are being directed to Christian education.
