Vernice Lundgren, 76, of Hawarden, died Wednesday, March 27, 1985, in a Sioux Falls, SD, hospital.

Services were Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the First Baptist Church at Hawarden. The Rev. Lee Christopherson officiated. Burial was in Big Springs Cemetery, rural Alcester, SD, under direction of the Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden. Pallbearers were Michael Thoelke, Brent Thoelke, Brad Thoelke, Scott Lundgren, Mark Lundgren, Stuart Lundgren, Benjamin Lundgren, and Casey Lundgren.

Mrs. Lundgren, the former Vernice Anderton, was born July 28, 1908, in Union County, SD. She married Arnold Lundgren Feb. 14, 1931, in Union County. They farmed in the Alcester area until 1956, when they moved to Hawarden. Mr. Lundgren died March 20, 1964.

She worked as a nurse's aide at the Hawarden hospital. For the last five years, she has been employed by Mid-Sioux Opportunity in the Green Thumb program. Mrs. Lundgren was an active member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Douglas (Janice) Thoelke of Sioux Falls, and Mrs. James (Ardyce) Gebhard of Dowagiac, MI; one son, Terry of Omaha; two sisters, Jeanette Larson of Hawarden and Mary Ann Johnson of Akron; one brother, Clifford Anderton of Sun City West, AZ; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two sons, Arvel in 1947 and Richard in 1982.
