FINAL SERVICES HELD MONDAY FOR ARNOLD LUNDGREN

Funeral services for Arnold G. Lundgren, 59, who was found dead in his car early Friday morning near Alcester on Highway 46 after having started out for Sioux Falls where he was employed as a car salesman, were held at 2 o'clock Monday at the First baptist church, Dr. Franklin M. Morse officiating. A family service had been conducted at the Barnard Funeral home at 11 o'clock that morning.

James Squier, soloist, sang "Beyond the "Sunset" and "The Old Rugged Cross," accompanied by Irvin Berglund at the organ. Casket bearers were Henry Husted, Lee Keehn, Emil Lindgren, Guy Hodgson, Amos Ericson and Bernard Wiksen. Interment was in the Big Springs cemetery.

Mr. Lundgren had started from home Friday morning,, encountering bad weather and road conditions, coupled with a faulty windshield wiper. He had talked to a trucker after stopping at the side of the road and turning off the car ignition, mentioning that he thought he would return to Hawarden. He apparently succumbed to a heart attack.

Lawrence Ryken, a farmer, went to investigate and called Edward Treiber, another farmer, to the scene. Dr. Louis Shoraga, Alcester, and the Union county sheriff and coroner were summoned.

The body was taken to the Nilson Funeral home at Alcester and later to the Barnard Funeral home in Hawarden. Mr. Lundgren had suffered two previous heart attacks, one when he was operating a feed store in Hawarden, after which he was hospitalized for some time. He had been in apparent good health this winter.

Born January 31, 1905, at Kiron, Iowa, he moved with his parents to Alcester at the age of three. He married Vernice Anderton of Hawarden here on February 14, 1931. The couple resided on a farm near Alcester over 25 years prior to moving to Hawarden.

Mr. Lundgren operated a produce house here for a number of years. He later worked at the Chevrolet garage as a salesman and for a short time was employed by Ivandale Appliance. He then went to work for Hutton-Tufty in Sioux Falls.

He was a member of the Baptist church at Big Springs, later transferring to the Hawarden Baptist church.

Preceding him in death besides his parents were a son, Arvil, age 16; two sisters, Mrs. Geneva Donkerbrook and Mrs. Abbie Berglund; and two brothers, Emer Lundgren at Hawarden and Algot Lundgren at Alcester.

Survivors include the widow; two sons, Dick of Sandusky, Ohio, and Terry, at home; two daughters, Mrs. Douglas (Janice) Thoelke of Sioux Falls and Mrs. James (Ardyce) Gebhard of Dowagiac, Mich.; a sister, Mrs. [illegible: Edith?] Collar of Sioux Falls; and six grandchildren, Michael and Brent Thoelke, Monica, Jane and Christine Gebhard and Scott Lundgren.

Friends and relatives attended from Alcester, Sioux Falls, White, Beresford, Hudson, Canton and Vermillion, S.D., and Mumboldt, Indianola, Akron and Sioux City, Iowa.
