Mrs. Madelene "Dottie" Rens, age 96, of Hull, passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2010, at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, July 3, at 2:00p.m., at the First Christian Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Carl Boersma will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. There will be a prayer service on Saturday at 1:15p.m. at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.

Visitation will be after 4:00p.m. on Friday, with the family present from 6:00p.m. to 7:30p.m., at the funeral home.

Madelene was born on August 16, 1913, at Hull, the daughter of Dick and Julia (Synhorst) Koele. She was raised in Hull.

On December 20, 1935, she married Albertus Rens at Hull. They made their home on a farm near Hull, where she was a homemaker. Bert passed away on October 31, 1953, at Hull.

Madelene then moved into Hull. She was employed by the Sioux Center Community Nursing Home as a nurse’s aid and later was a clerk at the Hull Pharmacy. She retired in 1993.

She then moved to the New Homestead in Sioux Center. Failing health required her to transfer to Pleasant Acres in 1997.

"Dottie" was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church, where she participated in the Ladies’ Aid.

She is survived by her son and his wife, Tim and Linda Rens, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; a granddaughter and her husband, Tam and Tim Byl, of Sioux Center; a grandson and his wife, Kevin and Julie Rens, of Council Bluffs; five great-grandchildren, Tracy and Allen Kirschenman, of Harrisburg, South Dakota; Teri Byl, of Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas; T. J. Byl, of Sioux Center; and Parker Rens, of Council Bluffs; and several nephews and nieces.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a stillborn daughter, three brothers, and two sisters.
