R. L. "Rosie" Venard, 77, of Vermillion,
died Monday (July 4, 1988) in the
hospital in Vermillion.

Services were held Friday in United
Church of Christ in Vermillion. The
Rev. Robert Inglis officiated. Burial was
in Grace Hill cemetery at Hawarden,
Iowa, under direction of the Iverson-
Siecke funeral home in Vermillion.

Mr. Venard was born Jan. 20, 1911,
in Fort Benton, Wyo. He moved to Hawarden
as a child and graduated from
Hawarden high school and the South
Dakota State University at Brookings in
1934. He married Viola Pierson Oct. 24,
1935, at Alcester. From 1937 to 1939 he
taught school at Wakonda and served as
a county agent at Redfield until 1944.

He served in the U.S. navy during
World War II. He moved to Vermillion
in 1946 and served as county agent for
Clay county until his retirement in 1966.
He then was executive secretary for the
Clay county Livestock Feeders Association.
He also was a seed corn salesman
for Curry Seed Co. and was involved in
real estate sales and farm management.

Mr. Venard was a member of the
Vermillion Lions club, Veterans of Foreign
Wars and Elks Lodge at Yankton.
He was a avid hunter and fisherman.

Survivors include his wife; a son,
Terry of Leucadia, Calif.; two brothers,
Wayne and Paul, both of Hawarden,
and two grandchildren, Jennifer and
Charles Venard.

Memorials have been established in
his name with the United Church of
Christ and the 4-H Youth Foundation.
