RITES HELD AT BOYDEN MONDAY FOR EMMA LUYMES

BOYDEN -- Funeral services were held Monday, March 26, at 2 p.m. for Mrs. Emma Luymes, who passed away Friday, March 23 at 1:30 at the Lutheran hospital in Sioux City, where she had been a patient for about three weeks following a blood clot.

Rev. Henri Steunenberg was in charge of services. Milton Vander Berg of Sioux Center, a nephew, was soloist with Mrs. L. V. Grooters at the organ.

Emma Ver Doorn Luymes, daughter of the late Henry and Emma Ver Doorn of Middleburg, was born in the Netherlands, June 20, 1880. When a child of 11 years she came to this country with her parents and settled on a farm near Middleburg. She was united in marriage to Herman Luymes March 6, 1900, and they spent their entire lives in Boyden.

One daughter was born to this union: Adeline, who preceded them in death at the age of 18 in 1928. She was also preceded in death by her husband June 14, 1941, and one brother, Bill Ver Doorn.

Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Lena Van Zee and Mrs. Gertrude Hennink both of Rock Valley; three brothers, Dick Ver Doorn and Arie Ver Doorn, both of Hollandale, Minn., and Anthony Ver Doorn of Bellflower, Calif.; 23 nieces and nephews; two children who have made their home with Mr. and Mrs. Luymes who were Ethel Smith, now Mrs. John Venekamp of Presho, S. Dak., and Robert Smith.

She was a member of the First Reformed church and a member of the Ladies Aid Society.

Burial was made at the family lot at the Boyden cemetery. Pallbearers were six nephews, Arie Ver Doorn, Henry Ver Doorn, Richard Van Zee, Alvin Van Zee, Henry Ver Doorn and John Ver Doorn.
