Hilda Lubbers, 100, of Sioux Center died Friday, April 1, at the Sioux Center Community Nursing Facility.

Funeral services were Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Central Reformed Church with the Rev. Marilyn Rensink officiating. Interment was in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

Mrs. Lubbers was born March 26, 1905, in Humboldt, the daughter of Cling and Hanna (Wiig) Cleveland. As a young girl, her family moved to South Dakota, and later settled in Tall Moon, Minnesota. Fond memories were riding her horse "Chubby" to school, and working summers at Idle Wild Resort. When Hilda was a young woman she went to Canton, South Dakota, to work as a waitress in the hotel. This is where she met Alfred "Ted" Lubbers, a barber also working at the hotel. The two were married in Sioux Center on February 15, 1927, by the Reverend Fred Lubbers, Ted's father. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Sioux Center the rest of her life. He preceded her in death last June 16, after 77 years of marriage.

She was a stay-at-home mom until the children were grown. She then began working at Roelofs & Vander Berg Store for [the] next 30 years. In 1992, she started crocheting lace around baby blankets sold in the store. She loved to keep her hands busy and at last count she had lovingly crocheted over 1,200. Hilda was an active member of Central Reformed Church since moving to Sioux Center.

She is survived by her daughter Marlene and her husband Denny Foxhoven of Ida Grove; son Ken and his wife Connie of Sioux City; two daughters-in-law, Marge Lubbers of Big Fork, Minnesota, and Ann Larkin of Hope, Idaho; a sister, Ruth Bowe, of Franklin City, Wisconsin; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grand children; two step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two sons, Roger and Alroy; two sisters, Clara Brenden and Cora Vander Weil; and three brothers, Oscar, Burny and Art Cleveland.
