WERE OLD SETTLERS -- DEATH CLAIMS TWO UNION COUNTY CITIZENS -- H. H. Johannsen and Ernest Ludwig of Alcester Pass Away Last Sunday
(Portion relating to H. H. Johannsen extracted from this joint obituary)

Death claimed two old time and well known residents of Union county last Sunday [March 7], when Ernest Ludwig and H. H. Johannsen passed to their reward. Both had been residents of Alcester and vicinity for many years. Mr. Johannsen also resided in Hawarden for several years, returning to Alcester only a month or two ago. The funeral of Mr. Johannsen was held Tuesday afternoon [March 9]....

H. H. Johannsen located on a farm near Alcester nearly forty years ago. He continued to reside there until a few years ago when his health began to fail him and he moved to Alcester. Later he bought a home in Hawarden and lived here for the past three years. A few months ago he sold his home here and returned to Alcester in order to be nearer his children and old friends. He is survived by his wife and three children. The children are Peter Johannsen, Mrs. Peter Weidenfeller and Arthur Johannsen. He was a kindly old gentleman and was well liked by everyone. The bereaved wife and children have the sympathy of many friends in their sad hour.
