WERE OLD SETTLERS -- DEATH CLAIMS TWO UNION COUNTY CITIZENS -- H. H. Johannsen and Ernest Ludwig of Alcester Pass Away Last Sunday
(Portion pertaining to Ernest Ludwig extracted from this joint obituary)

Death claimed two old time and well known residents of Union county last Sunday [March 7], when Ernest Ludwig and H. H. Johannsen passed to their reward. Both had been residents of Alcester and vicinity for many years.... The funeral of Mr. Ludwig was held Wednesday afternoon [March 10].

Ernest Ludwig was 74 years of age at the time of his death and had been a resident of Union county for 38 years, residing all of this time on a farm a few miles southwest of Alcester. His wife passed away a few years ago. He leaves twelve children, five sons and seven daughters, to mourn his death. The sons are Charles, Hugh, Willie, Otto and Henry and the daughters are Mrs. Robert Fischer, Mrs. Herbert Gasser, Mrs. Arthur Peterson, Mrs. John L. Peterson, and Misses Lena, Hattie and Selma. He was well known throughout Union county and took a prominent part in the affairs of the community in which he resided as well as in the larger affairs of the county. He was held in high regard by all who knew him. The children have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends in their bereavement.
