Aljie Larson, 66, lifelong resident of this community was the victim of a tractor accident causing his death Monday.

The tragedy occurred at the farm of his son, Loyle, west of Hawarden, where he was hauling manure with a haybuck and tractor. The haybuck reared up causing the tractor to overturn and crush the victim.

At the scene of the accident was a son-in-law, Richard Newman, who with the help summoned by Mrs. Loyle Larson raised the tractor, but Mr. Larson died soon after he was removed. His son, Loyle, was not at home at the time as he had a dental appointment in Hawarden. The body was taken to the Nilson Funeral Home at Alcester.

Mr. Larson was born August 20, 1892, on a farm five miles south of Hawarden, a son of Mr. & Mrs. E. A. Larson, pioneers of this vicinity. He later moved to a farm northwest of town in Virginia township.

He served with the armed forces in World War I at Camp Funston in Kansas and later with the medical corps at Ft. Sheridan, Chicago, where he met Lillian Zettervail whom he married in June, 1920. A daughter, Phyllis was born to this union.

He married Jeanetta Anderton July 31, 1923. The couple celebrated their silver wedding anniversary by holding open house at their home in 1948. Last July they celebrated their 35th anniversary at Storm Lake with their childlren and families present for the occasion.

As a young man he joined the Big Springs Baptist church of which he was serving as deacon at the time of his death. He was a former member of the church choir and band and belonged to the Men's club at the church.

For many years Mr. Larson served as a member of the Petry school board in Virginia township while his children were in attendance at the rural school. Most of his life was spent on the farm in Virginia township until their retirement to their home in Hawarden four years ago.

Funeral services will be held this afternoon (Thursday) at 1 o'clock at the home for the immediate family and at 2 o'clock at the Big Springs Baptist church. Rev. J. Stanley Rendahl will officiate with burial in the church cemetery.

Survivors include the widow; two sons, Aljie, Jr. of Humboldt, Ia. and Loyle; two daughters, Mrs. June Newman of Alcester and Mrs. Phyllis Grotewald of Storm Lake; a brother, Harold of Hawarden, a sister, Mrs. William Winterlin of Sioux City and 11 grandchildren.
