FUNERAL SERVICES FOR MRS. J. C. LANDHUIS

Mrs. J. C. Landhuis, whose death was mentioned in last week's Bee, died at her home in Rock Valley last week Saturday evening [June 9], following a lingering illness with cancer of the stomach. For more than seven years she suffered and fought against this dreaded disease. She submitted to three major operations in hopes that she might obtain relief, but all that medical skill and loving care could do for her was of no avail.

She bore her suffering patiently; she realized that the end was coming, and herself made plans for her funeral services, selecting the pall bearers, the musical selections and expressing her choice of ministers to preside at the services, all of which was carried out as nearly as possible according to her wishes.

Mrs. Landhuis was born at Sioux Center March 1, 1896, where she spent her early life and grew to womanhood. She was united in marriage at Sioux Center on February 22, 1917, with J. C. Landhuis. After their marriage, they moved to Hospers where they resided for a year or more. They lived at Hull a year and Boyden five years. From Boyden they made a trip to Holland and spent four months there visiting with relatives and friends. On their return in October 1924, they located in Rock Valley and have since been residents of this place.

Funeral services were held in the First Reformed church in Rock Valley last week Wednesday afternoon, and the remains were taken to the Valley View Cemetery. The services were largely attended, friends coming from Boyden, Sioux Center, Hull, Doon, and other nearby towns. Rev. Straks of Maurice and Rev. Hilkema of Orange City spoke at the services.

Mrs. Landhuis leaves her husband and one daughter, Emma Joan, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Aardema of Doon, besides other relatives and many friends, who extend sincere sumpathy to the bereaved ones.
